SSC CGL Selection Process Details

SSC CGL Selection Process: The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Combined Graduate Level Exam involves multiple stages, each designed to test various skills and qualifications. The selection process includes written examinations, proficiency/skill tests, and document verification. Detailed information about the selection process is as follows:

  1. Mode of Selection:
    • Minimum qualifying marks in Tier-I, Section-I, Section-II & Module-I of Section-III of Paper-I of Tier-II & Paper-II of Tier-II Examination are:
      • UR: 30%
      • OBC/EWS: 25%
      • All other categories: 20%
    • Maximum permissible error rates in Module-II of Section-III of Paper-I of Tier-II (DEST) are:
      • UR: 20%
      • OBC/EWS: 25%
      • All other categories: 30%
  2. Examination Process:
    • Based on Tier-I (Computer Based Examination) scores, candidates will be shortlisted by category for the Tier-II Examination. Specific cut-offs will be set for posts such as Junior Statistical Officer and Statistical Investigator Grade-II.
    • All qualified candidates from Tier-I will take all three sections of Paper-I in Tier-II. Those shortlisted for Junior Statistical Officer/Statistical Investigator Grade-II will also appear in Paper-II.
    • In Tier-II’s Paper-I, qualifying all sections is mandatory.
  3. Shortlisting and Qualification:
    • Candidates will be shortlisted based on aggregate performance in Section-I and Section-II of Paper-I of Tier-II for evaluation of Section-III. Candidates not qualifying Section-I + Section-II will not be evaluated for Section-III or considered for further selection.
    • Section-III of Paper-I in Tier-II (Computer Knowledge Test and DEST) is qualifying in nature, with separate higher cut-offs for posts requiring computer proficiency or DEST.
  4. Preference and Final Selection:
    • Candidates must submit post preferences via the Online Option Form on the SSC website before the final result. Preferences are final and irreversible.
    • Candidates who fail to submit post preferences within the stipulated time will not be considered for any posts in the final result.
    • Posts with mandatory physical and medical standards (detailed in Annexure-XVI) will have these requirements assessed after final selection. Failure to meet these standards will disqualify the candidate from all posts.
  5. Merit Lists:
    • The merit list will be based on overall performance in Tier-II Examination.
    • For Junior Statistical Officer and Statistical Investigator Grade-II, merit lists consider Section-I & Section-II of Paper-I and Paper-II, subject to qualifying Section-III.
    • For posts with DEST, merit lists consider Section-I & Section-II of Paper-I, subject to qualifying both modules of Section-III.
    • Final selection will be based on Tier-II Examination performance and post preferences. Candidates will be allocated their highest available preference based on merit and will not be considered for other options.
  6. Reserved Categories:
    • SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM, and PwBD candidates selected on their own merit without relaxed standards will be adjusted against unreserved vacancies.
    • Candidates qualifying with relaxed standards will be counted against reserved vacancies.
  7. Other Important Information:
    • Physical standards for various posts, including physical tests and measurements, will be conducted by the relevant departments. Detailed standards are provided for posts such as Inspector (Central Excise/Examiner/Preventive Officer), Sub-Inspector (CBI, NIA), and others.
    • Candidates must ensure they meet all eligibility criteria and physical standards for their preferred posts. Non-compliance will lead to disqualification.
